55 — The Beloved Son

THE BELOVED SON

LUKE 20:9-19 | ISAIAH 5:1-7

Because the leaders of Israel did not honor Jesus, they were stripped of their authority and it was given to the apostles.

  • THE BELOVED’S VINEYARD (V. 9)

  • THE SERVANTS (VV. 10-12)

  • THE BELOVED SON (VV. 13-15)

  • THE OWNER (VV. 15-16)

  • THE CORNERSTONE (VV. 16-19)

Discussion Starters

Monday—What did God mean when he said to Abraham, “I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse…” (Genesis 12:3) Does this strike you as an odd statement? Why?

Tuesday—What is the vineyard in the parable? (v. 9) To whom was it given? What were God’s expectations from Israel?

Wednesday—Who do the servants in the parable represent? (vv. 10-12) Whom did they most pointedly critique? (see for example Zechariah 10:3-4)

Thursday—What would compel God to send his Son after the way Israel had treated his prophets? What does this tell us about God’s character and his love for his people?

Friday—What does it meant that Jesus is the cornerstone? What does it mean that Jesus took the vineyard from the leaders of Israel? To whom did he give it?
