Welcome to the Family (1 Thessalonians 2:1-16)

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY

1 THESSALONIANS 2:1-16

Being mistreated is a necessary trait for all who belong to God’s family (and a proof that we are his).

  • The Life of a Parent (vv. 2-13)

  • Family Traits (vv. 1, 14-16; cf. Romans 8:15-17)

Discussion Starters

Monday—Have you ever lashed out at someone who loves you because you were hurting? Why do you think we do that? What do we need at times like that?

Tuesday—Read verses 3 through 6. Why does Paul need to point out all the things he didn’t do? Do things like that happen in churches? Should you be on the lookout for leaders who are dishonest, greedy, and tell people what they want to hear?

Wednesday—Why does Paul see his ministry in terms of being a parent? (vv. 7-12) How does sacrificial service describe parenting? How are you called to sacrificial service? Why?

Thursday—Who all does Paul mention has endured mistreatment in verses 14 and 15? What’s his point in doing this?

Friday—Read Romans 8:16-17. How does affliction in your life assure you that your God’s child? Why should that be a comfort to you?
