Where Heaven and Earth Touch (Psalm 99)

WHERE HEAVEN AND EARTH TOUCH

(PSALM 99 | JOHN 20:11-12)

God’s kingdom is one of justice and mercy, and it is experienced in Jesus Christ.

  • What is the Mercy Seat? (v. 1; Isaiah 6:1-4)

  • What is Holiness? (vv. 2-9)

  • Why is it Called the Mercy Seat? (vv. 6-8)

Discussion Starters

Monday—What is holiness? Why is holiness beautiful and terrifying? What does experiencing God’s holiness lead people to do? (Isaiah 6:5; Luke 5:8; Job 42:3-6) Have you ever felt undone by God’s holiness?

Tuesday—Why was the Mercy Seat at the center of worship in Israel? How should that inform our understanding of worship?

Wednesday—Read John 20:11-12. How does this relate to the Mercy Seat? Which is the original and which is the copy?

Thursday—Where do you experience God’s presence like Israel did in the Holy of Holies? Do you really believe that? How should it transform the way you enter into and participate in the worship service?

Friday—How should encountering the king of heaven change you? What does living in this world as a citizen of heaven look like?
